Two Face

In this rapidly developing world, nothing seems to be far fetched. Commodities considered to cater only for the elite and rich are now at throw away prices, even discounted to increase volumes. However, each new technology receives more criticism than appreciation and as an engineer, I can tell you it's very disappointing. More emphasis is laid on it's environmental impact and health hazards it poses than learning to appreciate how it makes our life better. Take for instance the latest advancements made in robotics. Experts predict that we may have household robot sooner than expected, say another 10 years. Questions are already being raised about how they might take over the human race and put us all under slave labor. Paranoia and fear have blinded us. Something's got to give right? Why focus on the negatives always? I agree that if it were not for these critics, it would lead to uncontrolled development. So, probably the best thing to do is have communities or groups which can encourage and publicize the positives out of these technological marvels.

The recent trend is to go back in time to find answers to all these problems. Companies now take pride in showing how eco-friendly their products are, taking conserving steps like planting trees and even creating awareness programs. They even highlight how green their products are such as Arsenic free screens, lead free cables, what not. Automobiles are made more efficient and are even made from more environmentally friendly materials. The latest advancements even ensure longer life of our depleting non renewable resources such as oil. At this rate of protecting the environment, there will be no need for the future generations to see trees and animals only in books. The predicted lifespan of resources is gradually increasing. Also, we have celebrities taking pride on how they want to go green, influencing many across the world. People are so obsessed about conserving the environment that they have even given up their non vegetarian diet and are into organically cultivated crops. So, relax and try to enjoy what the world has to offer. We have learnt enough from the industrial revolution, how important it is to maintain balance between technology and it's impact on nature.

What I am trying to say here is, there are always two sides to a story, it's your choice which you want to adopt and appreciate. But make sure you listen to both sides before making your decision.
