Why?

The first task I received upon joining my job was to prepare a skit. When we sat down to discuss a theme, the first problem that stuck our minds was COMMUNICATION or rather the lack/inability of it.

India; the second most populated nation in the world. It’s this tag that has drawn firms in hoards and investments in billions. Potential is spotted in the extremely quintessential products for the society to the niche segments. It’s not called a sub-continent for no reason.

Now, my travels have been limited to pretty much around places in Bangalore. But it’s the one off journey that takes you out of your comfort zone which is a real eye opener. It happened a couple of weeks back; a ride to Yelagiri. The avid biker that I am, I’ll skip that part for now and tell you what I learnt. It’s been on the back of my mind for some time now finally I’m putting them down in words.

The scene was very simple. We had to park our bikes in a place and boy was it an exercise in itself! According to the one in-charge there, we were supposed to park separately. Don’t ask me the reason as I’ve no idea! The language barrier was too much to overcome at that point. It got me thinking.

In a country with so many languages, each strong in its own way is definitely a cause for worry. The diversities do not end there. Food, religion, politics, beliefs, customs, etc., each is unique to a state/district. How is it possible then to unite a nation which is as diverse as it gets in areas we can’t even count?

Not to mention, each of these branches is so strong on their own that thanks to our policies, they’re enough to bring down the entire country to rest. You come up with new educational schemes, they must be tailor made for different regions. Awareness campaigns, again suit them to local tastes. When you think about it, there are innumerable of problems plaguing our country and if every initiative taken to solve them has to be altered on such a large scale, how can we expect progress?

To send out a common message that unites the nation, making us work together seems a dream. Something like sports maybe a good idea is what I thought briefly; or a leader. But controversies are aplenty in every medium. It’s all nice for tourists from other countries to come over here to appreciate the diversity of our country, but the one’s bearing the onus of this is definitely us.

This post is particularly for those who keep cribbing about our nation’s incompetence in various sectors. When we can’t work like one single entity, how can you expect results? Think about it. Am pretty sure you have plenty other perspectives of the situation and hopefully a convincing answer for most. It’s a brief post and open for discussion! Jai Hind!!
