A Burst of Patriotism
While writers go on record saying that blogging is a way of ruining the art of writing and are contributing to the deterioration of English, I care little about such statements. Not everyone is gifted enough to come up with novels or has the luxury to take time off and write their minds. Unlike most of my posts, there is no prologue to this.
It's been roughly a week since we celebrated our independence after a slew of ruthless invasions and colonization of this amazing country, my motherland. Many of the scenarios I come across these days tend to throw light on how the western world seems to be more "Advanced" and "Civilized" while we are plummeting to depths, succumbing to poverty and corruption. Some might be of the opinion that we were fit to be ruled. Well, I'm sorry, no one is taking our own country away from us. Or are they?
In one of my previous posts, I was asking myself the meaning of progress. Although it sounds a bit cliched, my point is that globalization is causing more negatives to us than we can see at this point. A trip to some of the most ancient temples and ruins of just southern India have shown me what we were capable of. It's hard to fathom how our ancestors had hand crafted enormous structures with nothing but a craftsman's eye. When I see these so called megastructures being built in a certain number of years and the sheer computer wizardry behind them all, it begs the question; how were we doing it? You only need to see some of the wealth here to realize how prosperous this country was at one point. What led to it's downfall is certainly beyond my understanding. We had our ways of dressing, eating, everything suiting our tropical weather. Yet, somewhere we lost the plot and adopted the more "Modern" lifestyle. To be impartial, I think it's a similar case with the Chinese and the Egyptians. Massive heritage and culture being exploited and ruined, leaving us all play catch up. Maybe we should have never been discovered. Maybe we should have united at the right time. Or maybe we have just passed our golden age. Rise, people of India, hold your culture and values, realize your true potential.
