Saturation is not good for me

Norman Lewis, the author of Word Power, keeps pointing about how our vocabulary gets saturated as we get older. That's exactly the problem I am facing right now. Oh yes, words flow freely and writing articles does not need much time or work. However, there are no new words you can find here. Every word I can type in these articles here are the one's I learnt in my high school and to a certain extent my PU courses. I can actually go as far as saying that the sentence formation techniques have also remained the same. Some say reading might help solve my problem but I doubt that very much. You see there is a significant difference between learning the meanings of new words (or their roots) and knowing how to use them to frame sentences in a diplomatic manner. This is certainly not a good thing. If you read through the editorials in your daily newspaper, you certainly come across words you never knew existed but using them yourself to write articles in something as informal as say ...

Am on BSM!!

Business Standard Motoring(BSM) is one of the leading auto magazines in the country and my favorite for one reason. It's a laugh. Just going through even the smallest news columns or the extensive roadtests, puts a smile on your face and if you are the expressive type, leaves you laughing your ass off for a long time. If you don't believe me, read it for yourself. Since auto magazines are my idea of a perfect companion, it was only a matter of time before I expressed my opinion. So, last month, after reading a bit about the Honda Jazz and few other articles, my favorite journos had disappointed me a bit. It just did not seem right. What's the next thing do you suppose I did? Write a letter of course!! I am not going to discuss the contents of the letter here. If you want to know, read it for yourself in this month's BSM.(No, this is not a marketing strategy!!). All I can tell you is that 90% of the contents of my original letter has been published under the title "...

If you think the article could do with some improvement, please do comment and tick any of the boxes below each article. Thanks for the support. Looking forward to improve myself.

In this rapidly developing world, nothing seems to be far fetched. Commodities considered to cater only for the elite and rich are now at throw away prices, even discounted to increase volumes. However, each new technology receives more criticism than appreciation and as an engineer, I can tell you it's very disappointing. More emphasis is laid on it's environmental impact and health hazards it poses than learning to appreciate how it makes our life better. Take for instance the latest advancements made in robotics. Experts predict that we may have household robot sooner than expected, say another 10 years. Questions are already being raised about how they might take over the human race and put us all under slave labor. Paranoia and fear have blinded us. Something's got to give right? Why focus on the negatives always? I agree that if it were not for these critics, it would lead to uncontrolled development. So, probably the best thing to do is have communities or groups whi...

4 years, a lifetime

I received a very interesting mail a while back. It was about how engineering students approach each year of their course. I thought of improvising on that a bit. You see according to me, the four years of our course can be perfectly related to person's life. Each year can be equated to 10 years of life. Did the math? Now, let's proceed then. The first year, you are new to the college, scared of seniors, lecturers, try to learn anything and everything about your friends and your surroundings. You even have the school boy crush on some girl who turns out to be your senior. As the year progresses though, you are more comfortable with your fellow classmates and are at ease in college. These are something you would do the first 10 years of your life. Let me explain. You see, as a kids, you were always amazed by your surroundings, wanted to learn about the minutest of details and asked the stupidest of doubts. That attitude gradually changes and you can understand your surroundings ...
